Baby Dedication Sunday 27th Nov

On November 27, we will be having our Baby Dedication Sunday.

These Sunday’s are very special to us as a church as we set aside time to thank God for the lives of our children and dedicate ourselves and our child(ren) to the things of the Lord.

So please mark your calendars and plan to join us.

Now if you’d like to dedicate your child on the 27th November or if you have more questions, please email Richard at richard@sgparra.org.au by the 7th November.

Psalm 127:3 - ‘Behold children are a heritage from the LORD, the fruit of the womb a reward.’

Lunch After Church This Week: Footy Feast

This Sunday is NRL Grand Final day with our local team, the Parra Eels, in the Grand Final which starts at 7.30PM. For our monthly lunch after church The Spring Life Group thought it’d be fun to get warmed up (albeit 7 and half hours early) by having a footy feast!

Hot dogs, party pies, sausage rolls will be on offer with ice cream cones for dessert.

A game of touch footy will have to happen after lunch!

See ya Sunday, hope you can all be there!

Missions Book Club Start This Sunday Night - RSVP to Richie

At our Church family meeting a month a go, I mentioned that we would go back to the basics of why we mission.

So the question I have for you is… Why do we need to mission? If God is in control of everything, why cant we just sit back and not bother?

This is one of the many questions we hope to unpack as we start (an optional but highly recommended) book club:

  • Who: You’re all invited

  • What: Book club - Evangelism and the Sovereignty of God (J.I Packer)

  • When: Sunday nights, from 8pm - 9pm starting 2nd Oct - 23rd Oct (4 week)

  • Where: Zoom

And for those who are saying - I don’t read, here’s an excerpt from a book called “Lit” by Tony Reinke:

“Perhaps you love to read. You get the same feeling from a new stack of books as you get from looking at a warm stack of glazed donuts. Maybe not. For most, reading a book is like trying to drink down a huge vitamin. You know you need to read - you’ll be healthier for it - but everything within you refuses to swallow!”

Well, I exhort you church - join us. It will be good for you :)

Email richard@sgparra.org.au to sign up if you are keen and I can send you the Zoom link and order a book for you.

Sunday Recap

Sunday was both a happy and sad day. We welcomed in new members (Elizabeth and Sonny Comprado, John Hennessy, Roman Cierezsko, and Andrew and Esther Vargordi) and said goodbye to the Davidson’s (as they head to Norwest Anglican where Same will be the Children’s Minister) and Abe + Riza (Arbie’s parents, as they head home to the Fils after their “4 week stay” in Aus which began in Jan 2020!).

Please get around these new folk and continue to help them feel welcome in our church!

We explored 1 Peter 2:11-12 and saw that we are called to fight the war within and shine to the world outside. You can hear that message here or on the pod.

We had our final “Sunday Nights” looking at “Love is Love”? You can listen to that here or on the pod.

I’d be interested to hear your thoughts about Sunday Nights and whether or not we should do it again.

Ministry Time This Sunday

Every 3rd Sunday of the month (but sometimes it moves around…like this month!) we invite anyone and everyone to come down the front after the service to be ministered to in prayer and gifts.

This is not just if you’re in a ‘crisis’, you may be looking for direction, healing, wisdom, answers, faith, etc, for any number of situations.

Come down to receive prayer from Riley, Matt Pettett and others who have been selected to pray.

Remember, “God gives grace to the humble”! If you want to experience even more grace, humbling yourself to receive prayer is a great means for that!

Sunday Nights This Week

We continue our ‘Sunday Nights’ after a great start! Come along to hear about how to deal with this secular creed: “Transgender Women Are Women”. You can listen to the first talk “Put Down Your Hammers, Pick Up Your Marker” here.

5pm = Toasties and hang out

6pm = Teaching time - ‘Transgender Women Are Women’ will be our topic, then there is a time for QnA after the talk.

You can invite anyone and everyone along. We had a number of guests last week, which was a joy.

Because it’s a night event, there’s a chance that someone who works on Sunday mornings can come in the evening.

Kids are welcome to sit and cooler quietly at the back with close parental supervision.

We’ve also had this sign up this week…who knows who will come as a result!

Spread The Word

We don’t want our Church to be a well-kept secret. Instead, we want to be a people who are warmly inviting new people to come along and attend.

The best type of promotion for a church is not FB, Insta, or Google Ads, it’s word-of-mouth. It’s you! You telling your friend, neighbour, colleague or family member of the amazing joy, hope, peace, and love you have experienced through Jesus in this church.

We’ve put up a sign on the street to try and encourage people to walk in and say hello on Sundays.

Maybe you can invite someone to come along and experience the joy we get to experience each week…and a free coffee!
